My name is Miriam Gordon. I am a biological scientist and a writer with an interest in science policy and environmental conservation. There are so many desperately important issues that face us today, including global warming and climate change. And, there are no easy answers. I entitled this blog “There’s Gotta Be a Way” because I found myself saying it over and over again. It really is upon us all to find a way to meet the energy needs and challenges of industrialized and rapidly developing nations and, at the same time, preserve fragile ecosystems that are essential to the future well being of this planet. I recently visited the American Museum of Natural History in New York city, and saw the following quote posted in the Hall of Biodiversity, ascribed to a Kenyan saying: “Treat the earth well. It was not given to you by your parents – it was loaned to you by your children.”
There are people out there who have the wherewithal to solve the almost impossible economic and environmental challenges that face the increasingly energy and resource hungry human race today. I am going to try to identify them. Failing that, I plan to pose as many challenges as I can think of, and hope as many of you as possible respond.
